RESEARCH LAB,
DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION

ABOUT

The LPDI aims to encourage the development of new technologies and methodologies for monitoring of drugs in complex matrices and metabolism study. The main challenge is to stay ahead with creative ideas to existing models, developing alternatives and exploratory solutions in areas such as artificial intelligence, chromatography and mass spectrometry, developing procedures able to add value and be inexpensive to implement.

Vinícius Figueiredo Sardela

Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Chemistry Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ-IQ). PhD student in Sciences Graduate in Chemistry program (IQ-UFRJ), focusing on the study of spectrometry of high resolution mass and comprehensive application in sport doping control. Master of Science by the same research program developed in partnership with the University of Ghent (Belgium), in the study of derivatizing agents for detection of stimulants of the central nervous system in urine. Degree in Pharmacy from the same university. Scientist Certification results in the analysis of doping control by the World Anti-Doping Agency, and responsible for the liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry sector of the Brazilian Laboratory of UFRJ Doping Control. It operates in the anti-doping control for 15 years. He worked as a researcher at the Doping Control Laboratory at the University of Ghent, Belgium, in the development of methods for the quantification of formoterol according to the criteria of WADA. Participated as an international expert in the analysis of results by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry of high resolution mass in the Drug Control Center, Kings College London, during the 2012 Paralympic Games and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology in 2018 Winter Olympics . Leader of the analytical group responsible for liquid chromatography analysis of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and shift deputy director. He was responsible for unification and simplification of different analytical methods used in doping control, and makers of current procedure performed on Brazilian Laboratory of Doping Control, able to monitor more than 500 substances using a single extraction procedure and a solid phase chromatographic run of only 11 minutes. It was also responsible for erythropoietin analysis in V Military World Games in 2011. And during the XV Pan American Games of Rio de Janeiro was a senior analyst of the analyzes of stimulants and narcotics, gas chromatography mass spectrometry. Member of the Brazilian Chemical Society and the Brazilian Society of Mass Spectrometry. Researcher with proven ability to develop and implement drug metabolites and detection strategies in biological fluids, winner of the award Manfred Donike, University of Cologne (Germany).
